Therefore, here are some general differences and characteristics between colleges and universities in the USA:
Size and Scope:
College: Colleges in the USA are usually smaller in scope and often focus more on undergraduate education and teaching. In addition, they may offer bachelor’s degrees as well as associate degrees.
University: Universities in the USA are usually larger and offer a broader range of academic programs. In addition, they may offer bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, doctoral programs, and research opportunities. Universities therefore often have more research and a wider variety of departments and schools.
Teaching Method:

What Is a Community College?
A community college in the U.S. education system is roughly equivalent to something between high school and a college/university in Sweden. It is usually a two-year academic program that prepares students for further studies or offers more career-focused education. Community colleges are typically publicly funded and therefore often cost significantly less than most universities and private colleges.
Instead of studying four years at a university or college to earn a bachelor’s degree, many students choose to complete their first two years at a community college and earn an AA/AS degree. This degree can be transferred, meaning you only need to study two additional years at a university or college to complete your bachelor’s degree. This process is called a transfer.
