Expectations and dreams. I have a tattoo that says “can’t measure a dream,” which feels very true to me. I see it as a reminder that no dream is too small or too big. One of my childhood dreams was to move to LA, and here I am, sitting in my own apartment in Santa Monica. Some dreams are easier to make come true than others, which is part of what makes the journey fun, exciting, and challenging. One of my biggest dreams is to become a fashion designer and have my own clothing brand. That is the main reason—and what motivated me most—to apply to Santa Monica College and study Fashion Design and Merchandising.
I have always had a huge interest in the United States and have been fascinated by its culture and language, especially California. Maybe it comes from all those wonderful movies and TV shows I watched, but I had wanted to move here for a long time. Oh boy, did I have expectations about moving here. I wanted—and still want—to experience as much as I possibly can. One of my favorite things about LA is that every day I can see something new and meet new people. Sometimes I have those moments when I realize that I am actually here: one of my biggest childhood dreams has come true. It feels absolutely incredible. The day I left, and the time leading up to it, was of course full of mixed emotions. I traveled alone to a city where I had previously spent only a few days. Although I was scared, I also felt excited and proud that I dared to take this step. I used to be someone who barely dared to call and book a hair appointment, so traveling to the other side of the world was a huge thing for me. I do not regret going for a second.
